Five-Cent Happiness
I went to the shop for groceries,
and a child came in too,
and bought a bag of ice cream from the freezer.
A block of it.
The shopkeeper charged him fifty cents.
I saw the fifty cents on the counter,
and felt a little uneasy,
worried about the ice cream's quality,
since it cost only fifty cents.
But then I thought,
I am already past the age
when happiness could be bought for fifty cents.
I once read a comment asking
why Nobita doesn't use Doraemon's gadgets to make money,
and someone replied,
when you ask that question,
you are no longer at the age for watching Doraemon,
and I couldn't agree more.
